Description of Chios:

Chios is one of the Northeastern Aegean Islands and the fifth larger
island in Greece. It is just a few miles off the coast of Asia Minor
and about midway between the islands of Samos and Lesvos. The distance
from the port of Piraeus is about 165 miles, though you can reach the
island by air in less than 40 minutes. The island is also connected
frequently to both Samos and Lesvos by sea and by air. Chios is also
one of the few places in Greece from where you can visit Turkey. There
is a year-round boat connection with the Turkish city of Cesme on the
Asia Minor Coast which is an hour drive from Smyrna.
Chios is famous for its Mastic Gum, a unique product, its well
preserved medieval villages and Byzantine castles. This is the
birthplace of poet Homer. Chios is an island that perfectly combines
the originality and warmth of the past to the modern demands.
Summer in Chios lasts from April to October. The island is full of
forests, breath-taking beaches, picturesque villages each with a
different history and traditional houses build side-by-side to
each-other.
The real wealth of Chios however, is its people and their hospitality,
their traditional cuisine and their hand-made works.

at the old navy barracks at the north entrance of
the port. A preserved area with important history for the island and
