History
The centre of the main building is about 700 years old. As we see the Hermitage of today, it has been for 400 years. Until 50 years ago the main building was one of the manor houses in the valley of Orient. The first change took place of the beginning of the 50s, when Don Feliú de Cabrera, a Majorcan grandee, bought the estate Son Barnadás (the previous name of the Hermitage) and accustomed it to his religious and cultural requirements.. As Don Feliú de Cabrera was the Greek Orthodox bishop of the Balears, he built the monastery and its cloister with patio for his clerical tasks. During this time, not only clerical honourables, but also kings and aristocrats were illustrious guests of the Hermitage.
At the beginning of the 80s the bishop decided to sell his estate. Since then the house has been in foreign hands and was slowly converted into a Hotel with the aim to keep the special ambience.
The closest village is a charming pristine hamlet called Orient. Despite its idyllic tranquility and secluded location, the Hermitage can be easily reached, taking only 30 minutes by car from Palma de Mallorca. Aside from many other activities, the Hotel provides a wonderful setting for strolls and excursions in Mallorca's majestic mountains. Hiking in the Valley of Orient
What leads most guests to the Hermitage, besides the excellent cuisine, are the many hiking possibilities beside the Hotel's entrance. Among the eleven, in the house's hiking guide, described excursions there is everything from easy and short to difficult and long. No matter if you are going to the castle of Alaró, to Santa María, up the L'Ofre, through the Comasema Valley or to Sóller, when ever you reach a locked gate, we have the key for you. L'Hermitage has 20 bedrooms and offers an excellent service as a 4 star hotel demands. Many of the rooms are decorated in mallorcan style, some of them with fireplaces, antique furniture, terraces, air condition, direct access to the garden and spectacular views of the Alfabia mountain range.
